Time flies when preparing for the Camino! In only two weeks from Today I will have arrived in the L’Esprit du Chemin, which will be my first hostel of many on my way to Santiago de Compostela. The next morning I will commence with my walk. The first stretch is a 25 km walk across the Pyrenees, like written before. But only if weather permits I will be walking the ancient route known as “Route Napoleon”. It is supposed to be one of the most beautiful routes but also one of the toughest. Only a week ago a pilgrim died on this stretch, most likely because of the weather made him miss the road.
The pilgrim office in Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port will tell me if the high route is recommendable or not. . Even though the Camino is not difficult in general it is clearly recommendable to follow the pilgrim office’s advise and stay on the safe side!
